Mighty Fine Apps is a profitable, self-funded, four-person team building accessibility-focused mobile products. We don’t have product managers, we don’t have daily standups, and we don’t do sprint planning.
We need a product engineer who’s run their own thing before — a solo app, an early startup, a serious freelance practice — and knows what it feels like to own outcomes, not just dev tickets. You’ll be handed wide-open problems like “our user retention drops 15% on day 3, figure out why and fix it”, and you’ll own the solution end-to-end.

What You’ll Work On
You’ll work with us building Live Transcribe by Mighty Fine Apps. The work is primarily Swift + SwiftUI, but we have backend and web surfaces too, and the desire and ability to cut across the stack is a big plus. Here’s our app by the numbers.

What You’ll Actually Do
- Own features — you won’t just slice up tickets. You will look at raw user feedback, diagnose the core friction point, design the technical architecture, write the code, push to production, and evaluate the result.
- Write pragmatic code — we value clean, readable code that ships. We do not value over-engineering, microservices for the sake of it, or architectural gold-plating.
- Think like a founder — you will constantly ask yourself “Does building this feature actually move the needle for our users, or is this just a fun engineering puzzle?”
Who We’re Looking For
- You are a generalist who leans front-end + product. You can write solid backend logic, but you have a sharp eye for design, transitions, and UX polish. You care deeply about how the app feels to a human.
- You have high agency. When you hit a roadblock (a broken API, a missing asset, a weird edge-case bug), you don’t wait for permission or block the sprint. You dig in, make a reasonable executive decision, and keep moving.
- You’ve shipped your own things. You have either run your own indie apps, been an early engineer at a tiny startup, or worked as a high-tier independent consultant. You understand the business side of software.
The Logistics
- Location — remote.
- Structure — 1099 contractor, with a clear path to full-time + equity if it’s mutually a fit. We prefer working B2B with your LLC/S-Corp.
- Compensation — Tell us your number. If it’s fair and your work backs it up, we say yes and move fast.
